College of Education & Human Development
Recruiting tomorrow’s educational leaders

In its continued commitment to developing future leaders in the education and human development fields, the College of Education and Human Development’s (COEHD) Giving Day funding will be used to address the critical teacher shortage through strategic recruitment efforts of future educators and underrepresented minority educators.

With your support, we will create a strategic and targeted outreach plan to gain high school students' interest in becoming educators. Our goal is to create a clear and present pathway for interested students to join UTSA COEHD and become the future educators needed in the San Antonio community.

RECRUITMENT – Students will be invited to join our educator preparation program centered in creating culturally efficacious teachers who are prepared to work with diverse student populations. We will partner with the Academy for Teacher Excellence Research Center (ATE) and will build a support system for students as they navigate their future careers as educators.

RETENTION – Through our partnership with ATE, these students will have access to the resources provided by the Teacher Academy Learning Community (TALC). This is how we will address their particular needs during their years at UTSA with the ultimate goal of graduation and becoming teachers in our San Antonio community.

We also understand the importance of support during the early years in the classroom. The new COEHD Student Success Center will support students with academic assistance, well-being and belonging assistance, career-engaged experiential learning, digital fluency and more. The ultimate goal is to increase the pool of diverse competent teachers that make teaching their career.

Plus, the first 25 donors to make a gift to the College of Education and Human Development, will unlock $1,000 thanks to Steve '92 and Tami '94 Griffin!
