UTSA Giving Day 2022

The School of Data Science is seeking friends and investors to establish the inaugural School of Data Science Founders Fund. The School is a cornerstone of UTSA’s long-term plan that integrates education and research in San Antonio’s high-tech corridor. Our vision is to inspire and prepare a generation of diverse data scientists who can make our world more equitable, informed, and secure. 

The School is establishing the Founders Fund to give students enrolled in data science degree programs (or exploring them) direct financial support and experiential learning opportunities. Data science students are dedicated to overcoming challenges in business, the environment, finance, healthcare, transportation and more, using advanced data engineering, artificial intelligence, cloud and edge computing, image and text analysis, and other data science methods and tools. Helping our students overcome challenges they may face in accessing finances and classroom-to-career learning experiences to impact our world is the difference your support will make. 

Now is a momentous time to establish the Founders Fund as the School of Data Science is on schedule to open in January 2023, initially welcoming approximately 400 students, 40 faculty, and 16 research labs in our new building at the center of downtown. 

Support Our Students in the Digital Discovery Economy 

The School of Data Science Founders Fund can provide the resources our students and scholars need by bridging gaps that could otherwise inhibit innovations and discoveries. 

Your donations to the Founders Fund will also help the School sustain and extend the inclusive excellence of our programs for students pursuing bold futures in the digital discovery economy – who are 38% first-gen, 45% women, and 47% underrepresented groups at UTSA – far exceeding the low diversity in the data science field nationally. Let’s Lead! Your donation will go to the following:

1. Scholarships towards a UTSA undergraduate or graduate data science certificate 
2. Research fellowships to graduate students
3. Seed grants for cross-disciplinary, data intensive student research proposals
4. Community collaborations that promote data science 
5. Experiential learning programs for the Data Science Living and Learning Community and their “commuter colleagues” 
6. Other scholarships, micro-grants, and community sponsorships 

All who give $5,000 or more can choose to be recognized as a Founding Friend of the School of Data Science on our website and other promotional material.
