John F. Reynolds History Student Award
A Historian Leaving a Legacy

The friends and colleagues of Jack Reynolds have established the John F. Reynolds History Student Award upon his recent retirement to recognize his longstanding contributions to the History Department and to extend his remarkable legacy in advancing history teaching and learning for students at UTSA.

An accomplished historian of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era politics with two deeply researched monographs under his belt, Jack has continued to hone his skills and expand his repertoire to include fields like quantitative and digital history, public history, and history of San Antonio and Texas. Although research and writing have been an important element of his long career, teaching has always been his passion. He has touched the lives of thousands of students from freshmen in the US History survey courses to graduate students producing guided research projects. Many of us will also fondly remember his tireless promotion of History Fair in its early years, and his involvement in Phi Alpha Theta, always with an eye on what more we can do to enrich the learning environment for our students at UTSA.

For those who are privileged to get to know Jack, his dedication to advance the common good, his sense of humor and self-effacement, and a spirit of generosity underlying his approach to life and work are a few of the many attributes that have made him such a dear colleague. To honor him in his retirement, we hope to dedicate this award to the recognition of academic excellence among history students and offer assistance to recipients to take part in rewarding research and learning activities.

Will you help us continue Dr. Reynolds’s legacy with a gift today? Your donation in any amount will go toward funding the John F. Reynolds History Student Award. These awards will ensure that his fine example of scholarship and generosity will not simply inspire but will help outstanding students advance their personal and professional development.
