At the UTSA School of Art, our goal is to give students a strong foundational base across artistic media while challenging them to build their conceptual chops. Students engage in the study of art history and critical theory in the classroom, in museums, and in the streets of the city, becoming conversant in the language of visual art. By giving students the space to experiment in the fertile soil outside of their comfort zones, we allow them to build strong skills and conceptual thinking that will propel their artmaking to new places and prepare them to take on the world.
The School of Art serves both undergraduate and graduate students through degrees in B.A, B.F.A and M.F.A degrees in Studio Art and B.A. and M.A. degrees in Art History and Criticism. We engage with San Antonio’s diverse community through hosting visiting artist and scholar lectures, curating exhibitions in galleries on Main and Southwest campuses, and by being visible through participation in programming at San Antonio arts institutions throughout the year. We are here to build the next generation of great artists, educators, and scholars.
