The Student Emergency Fund provides financial assistance when students are unable to meet immediate, essential expenses because of temporary hardship related to an emergency situation. Generous donations from UTSA students, parents, alumni, faculty and staff support the fund to provide support to Roadrunners throughout the year.
Since the fall semester of this academic year, 89 students have received financial support from the Student Emergency Fund. This service has aided roadrunners through challenges of housing insecurity, domestic violence, medical care, child care, and the death of a family member.
Returning from a friend’s house for Thanksgiving break, I came back to an apartment that had caught fire. It was a very stressful experience. The funds I received helped me buy some clothes and shoes to get me through to winter break when I would be able to be with my family again.

My wife and I are international students working on our graduate degrees here at UTSA. We are not expecting our first child and are financially struggling to prepare for her arrival. It has been a relief for us to receive emergency funds since our support system is so far away and unable to provide much financial support.

Through its creation in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey and in the height of the COVID pandemic, the Student Emergency Fund has provided limited grants to students who were in need due to an emergency. Whether it’s repairing damages from natural disasters, medical bills or general unforeseen emergencies, our goal is to cover some of those expenses students cannot handle on their own.
You can help today by donating any size so together we can help as many students as possible. This is Roadrunners helping Roadrunners. Thank you!
This year, the Student Emergency Fund will be the sole focus for Senior Vice Provost for Student Affairs and Dean of Students LT Robinson’s cosplay challenge. She will cosplay a character, chosen by students, at the end of the semester if we reach a total of 25 donors. If we reach 50 donors, she will cosplay again with a surprise character during Roadrunner Days.
If you are interested in donating to other wellbeing initiatives for students, consider donating to Roadrunners in Recovery, Wellbeing and Mental Health Initiatives, or the Whataburger Resource Room.
