Recovery Center
Support Roadrunners in Recovery

The UTSA Recovery Center provides comprehensive recovery services to all UTSA students, including recovery development and support, assessment and counseling interventions, and education and prevention materials. Part of a national effort, the collegiate recovery program strives to meet the needs of college/university students who struggle or have struggled with substance use and other addictive behaviors.

Over the past year, over 130 students have been trained on Opioid Awareness and Narcan Use which can save countless lives. Almost 700 students have benefitted from the alcohol and drug prevention and education services, as well as eating disorder awareness services.

Funds from last year’s Giving Day supported those programmatic efforts as well as provided funding for students to attend the 2022 National Collegiate Recovery Conference in Richmond, Virginia.

“Collegiate recovery saved my college career, by providing me a judgment free space to express my struggles.  I am now thriving in my academics, mental wellbeing, and have created meaningful relationships with my peers. Without collegiate recovery, I would not be as successful as I am now. I am eternally grateful for the support UTSA Recovery provides me and the impact it will have on my future endeavors.” - Jack

With support from this year’s donors, the Recovery Center hopes to increase the amount of student attendees to the 2023 National Collegiate Recovery Conference through registration scholarships.

  • If $2,000 is raised, Michael Vela Wellbeing Services Associate Director will dye his hair blue.
  • Student donations of $5 or more can pick up a neck gaiter from the UTSA Recovery Center on Giving Day. Non-student donors of $5 or more can designate a student to receive a gaiter or allow us to gift it to a student at random.
  • Donors who give more than $15 can pick up a UTSA Recovery Shirt at the Collegiate Recover Day on Friday, April 14, while supplies last.
