Birds Up for Barry

Long time UTSA student affairs leader Dr. Barry McKinney passed away on November 28, 2022. Over his more than 29 years in higher education student affairs, he mentored and advised students to develop their leadership skills and become the best versions of themselves through getting involved on campus. During his 18 years at UTSA, he worked with students in establishing many of the traditions and programs that are near and dear to every Roadrunner heart. His impact on nearly two decades of Roadrunner student-leaders is profound as there are literally thousands of alumni who look back on their time at our university and have a story that involves Barry. He was someone who helped students realize their full potential through challenging them with kindness, often using his trademark sense of humor.

Donations in memory of Barry will be used to support the programs and traditions that, working with students, he helped develop at UTSA, giving his wife Jan and their boys Mark and Scott an opportunity each year to celebrate Barry's legacy of supporting student activities.

Now and forever, Dr. Barry McKinney is a Roadrunner.
